10th Convocation of IIT Patna will be on 21st May 2024 at Newly made Auditorium: Prof T N Singh

Patna: 19 May 2024:: A press- meet was organised at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna, conference room located in its guest house, to share detailed information regarding the 10th Convocation of IIT Patna scheduled on Tuesday, 21st May 2024. On this occasion, Director IIT Patna, Prof. T. N. Singh, Convocation Convenor, Dean Academic & Dean Administration Prof. A K Thakur, Adean UG Dr. N K Tomar, Adean PG Dr Subrata Hait, PIC T&P Dr Asghwini Assam, Dr Kuldeep Singh Patel, Mr Kripa Shankar Singh, and other dignitaries from IIT Patna were present. Director shared that a total of around 630 students will be awarded degree in the upcoming Convocation on 21st May, 2024 from 3:00 pm onwards.

Out of around 630 students, a total of 515 male and 115 female students will be given degrees among various programs which include B.Tech, M.Sc., M.Tech, and Ph.D. A total of around 335, 73, 90, 132 students will be awarded degree for B.Tech, M.Sc., M.Tech, and Ph.D respectively. A detailed breakup is as follow:

Total number of B.Tech students will get degree that is 335, in which Male student is 276 & female 59. The number of MSc pass out student is 73, in which Male 55 & Female 18. The M tech students count is 90, in which Male 84 & Female 06. In last first time in IIT Patna history the PhD students cross the double digit number and it is 132, in which Male 100, and female 32.
The highest performer students will get high reward that is Medal for their hight achievements. So, the four Gold Medal, eighteen Silver Medal, Prof. D. Mukherjee 1st & 2nd prize – 02 and Institute Proficiency Medal – 16 has been Selected.

Convocation Convener Prof A K Thakur said that the degrees would be awarded in various branches of engineering, science, and social sciences that include Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Humanities and Social Science, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering under their various programmes.
The upcoming convocation at IIT Patna will be graced by the Chief Guest Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the Guest of honour R. K. Pathak, Secretary Technology Development Board, New Delhi, and Dr. Anand Deshpande, Chairman Board of Governors, IIT Patna, Board Members and Members of Senate of IIT Patna.
The students would be arriving for the convocation from 20th May evening and they will be taking part in the various pre-rehearsal activities in the morning of 21st May to make the convocation on 21st a grand success. The dress-code for the convocation for boys has been kept as the white color knee-level Pyjama Kurta for boys and for girls white colour salwar suit/saree.

On the day of convocation, in addition to degrees, follwoing medals and prizes will be awarded to outstanding students under following categories.
President of India Gold Medal (1) – President of India Gold Medal is awarded to one outgoing Undergraduate (i.e. B. Tech/BS) student of a batch solely based on excellent academic performance across all UG branches, measured in terms of the highest CPI at the end of the 8th semester.
Director’s Gold Medal (1) – Director’s gold medal is awarded to one outgoing Undergraduate (i.e.; B. Tech/BS) student every year based on overall academic performance along with positive contribution to the Institute Activity comprising Academics, Campus Life, Social Services and Evidenced Leadership qualities.

Chairman’s Gold Medal (1) – Chairman’s Gold Medal is awarded to one outgoing Postgraduate (i.e. M. Tech/MS) student of a batch solely based on excellent academic performance across all PG branches, measured in terms of the highest CPI at the end of the 4th semester.

Aryabhatta Gold Medal (1)- Aryabhatta Gold Medal is awarded to one outgoing Postgraduate in science stream (i.e. MSc) student of a batch solely based on excellent academic performance across all PG branches in science stream, measured in terms of the highest CPI at the end of the 4th semester.

Institute Silver Medals (17) – The Institute Silver Medal has been instituted to promote excellence in every branch of studies at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level (B. Tech./BS/M.Tech./M.Sc.) to recognize talent and acknowledge their academic performance to foster healthy competition among students of each stream leading to excellence.

Institute Proficiency Prizes (16)- This prize is to be awarded to encourage good quality research project work (best Project- BTP/MTP) leading to partial fulfilment for the award of UG/PG degree ( i.e. B.Tech/BS/M.Tech) in respective branch of studies.

Shri Kedar Nath Das Memorial Siver (1) – Kedar Nath Das Memorial Silver Medal is given to an outgoing B.Tech student in Computer Science and Engineering for excellence in terms of overall academic performance along with positive contribution to the Institute Activity comprising Academics, Research (publication, incubation, project), Campus Life, Social Services and Evidenced Leadership qualities.

Prof. Dibyendu Mukherjee Prize (2) – An endowment prize was instituted by Professor Dibyendu Mukherjee exclusively for outstanding BTech Project research in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (CBE). It is given to the two best project works in order of merit based on recommendation of departmental evaluation committee and grade awarded.
