IIT Patna: 11 February 2025 :: A new chapter in IIT Patna’s journey of growth and excellence began on February 11, 2025, with the laying of the foundation stone for a 732-bed boys’ hostel by Prof. T.N. Singh, the Director of IIT Patna. The ceremony was graced by Mrs. Alpana Singh, Mr. B.K. Jha (DGM, Bridge and Roof Company India Limited), Prof. A.K. Thakur (Dean, Administration), Dr. A.K. Jha (IWD Head), along with various Associate Deans, Department Heads, faculty members, Registrar, administrative officers, engineers, and other staff members of IIT Patna.
IIT Patna is the first institute among the second-generation IITs in the country to build new hostel with a cost of approximately ₹55 crores from its own revenues. This project is a significant step towards the institution’s self-reliance and ensuring better infrastructure for the students.
On this occasion, Prof. T.N. Singh, Director of IIT Patna, expressed pride and said, “Today is a historic moment for IIT Patna. This project is the result of the collective and dedicated efforts of our faculty, staff, and students. This hostel is a significant initiative towards making the institute self-reliant, and we are committed to providing the world calss infrastructure for the overall development of our students.”
Key features of the new hostel:
• Total built-up area: 15,480 square meters
• Structure: G+7, with two wings connected by a central corridor on each floor
• Total capacity: 366 rooms, each with two beds, accommodating 732 students
• One badminton court and a green recreational area with seating arrangements
• 32 rooms on the ground floor specially designed for differently-abled students, with toilets
• Fully Wi-Fi-enabled campus
• Centralized solar water heating system and a Griha rating-3 design ensuring energy efficiency
The construction of this state-of-the-art hostel is scheduled to be completed by May 2026. Bridge and Roof Company India Limited, a Mini Ratna Category-1 PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, has been appointed as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the implementation of this project. On the occasion of the foundation stone laying ceremony of the construction of the new hostel, Er. D N Jha, Executive Engineer, IWD, IIT Patna proposed the vote of thanks.
