IIT Patna: 23 October, 2023 :: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna campus witnessing a resplendent celebration of Durga Puja that brought students, faculties, and staff together in a vibrant display of cultural unity. Organized by the dedicated students, faculties, and staffs of IIT Patna in collaboration with the House of Socio-Cultural Affairs (HoSCA), this event transcended the boundaries of tradition and technology, leaving an indelible mark on all who are attending.
The four-day extravaganza commenced with the installation of a meticulously adorned Maa Durga idol in the opulent Student’s Activity Center (SAC) hall on the campus grounds. This masterpiece of artistry stood as a potent symbol of the goddess’s power and grace. Students conducted traditional rituals and heartfelt prayers, invoking blessings for the entire IIT Patna community.
The heart of the celebration have been the spectacular cultural program, complemented by puja rituals and delectable prasad. Cultural performances encompassed a Mohisasur Mordini stage play, traditional songs, captivating dance performances, and spirited dandiya. To engage the crowd, exciting competitions like conch shell (sankha) blowing and candle-lighting with a single matchstick were held on the evening of Mahasasthi (October 20). The fusion of traditional and contemporary themes in these performances embodied the spirit of unity in diversity.
Mahasaptami (October 21) featured a drawing and coloring competition for children and a multitude of cultural performances by children and students. The auspicious pushpanjali marked the beginning of Mahaastami, with the day unfolding to include sandhi puja and a lively dandiya session in the evening. Mahanabami hosted cultural activities and a Durga Puja quiz, while Mahadashami, the final day, concluded the festivities with a vibrant sindur khela, sweet distribution, and the ceremonial bishorjon.
Faculty members at IIT Patna expressed their delight at the resounding success of the celebration. They emphasized the significance of such events in fostering cultural harmony among students hailing from diverse corners of India. The commitment and enthusiasm displayed by the organizing team and the active participation of the IIT Patna community received accolades from the faculty.
