Patna: 15-day residential workshop was inaugurated by Chief Patron, Prof. T. N. Singh, Director, IIT Patna, Patron Prof. K. C. Sinha, Vice Chancellor, NOU, Bihar and other esteemed dignitaries with lighting the lamp and Saraswati Vandana. After the welcome speech, the souvenir of ISMS 2023 was also released by the distinguished guests.
The Instructional School for Mathematical Sciences (ISMS) 2023 is being organized at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna to provide a solid mathematical foundation to school students of Bihar state. The school is financially sponsored by the Education Department, Government of Bihar, and is organized jointly by IIT Patna and Bihar Mathematical Society (BMS). The event aims to train students on exciting topics in the mathematics syllabus they study in their regular school. The emphasis will be on learning mathematics by doing it.
The ISMS 2023 is being organized in two phases:
(a) ISMS-1: from 16-30 June 2023 for students from class 9 to class 12
(b) ISMS-2: from 1-15 July 2023 for students from class 6 to class 8
Chief Patron of instructional School for Mathematical Sciences (ISMS) 2023, Prof T N Singh, Director, IIT Patna said that “this is a very good step by Education Department, Govt of Bihar and Bihar Mathematical Society. The students come here after clearing various examinations; they are undoubtedly talented and have a keen interest in science and maths. Without mathematics we cannot imagine anything. We are sure that after 15 days of workshop, students will get a new dimension in their thinking and understanding power”.
On this occasion, Patron of this ISMS -2023, Prof K C sinha, Vice Chancelor, NOU, Bihar said that this workshop is being organized with the support of Bihar government and Bihar has been very fertile in the field of mathematics. The aim of this workshop is to train the students how to do better in the field of Mathematics. This 15 days training workshop will infuse new energy and inspiration among the students.
A total of 1423 students from various schools across the whole state of Bihar will join the event. These students have been selected on the basis of their performance in the state level examinations, namely the Srinivasa Ramanujan Talent Search Test in Mathematics (SRTSTM) and the C. V. Raman Talent Search Test in Science (CVRTSTS). The Bihar Mathematical Society conducted these examinations under the aegis of the Education Department, Government of Bihar. The students are selected from all districts in the state, including several from government schools and remote areas.
On this occasion, Organizing Secretary and Program Coordinator Dr. NK Tomar, Associate Professor, IIT Patna, Dr. Vijay Kumar Convener cum Executive Joint Secretary, BMS, Patna, Prof. AK Thakur IIT Patna, Prof. Smriti Singh IIT Patna, Co-Convenor Dr. PK Srivastava Head of Department Mathematics, IIT Patna including many officers and staff of IIT Patna and Government of Bihar were present.
