Patna: 2 May 2023 :: Today a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been inked between Indian Institute Technology (IIT) Patna & C- DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) for setting up a supercomputer. The MoU was signed by Prof. T N Singh, Director, IIT Patna and Shri E Magesh, Director General (DG) C -DAC in presence of the nodal officer Prof. Somanath Tripathy, Dr. Snehasis Das Chakraborty, team of C- DAC and other officials.
IIT Patna has become a part of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) funded by MEITY (Minister of Electronics and IT) & DST (Department of Science and Technology), Gov of India.
The objective of national supercomputing mission (NSM) is to empower technology institutions with high performing computing facility which can be used in various applications including artificial intelligence, cyber security, computational dynamics, weather modelling, disaster recovery, drug discovery, molecular dynamics, machine learning etc.
The supercomputer of 833 TF (Tera Flops) HPC systems is to be commissioned at IIT Patna by the month of September 2023. The said infrastructure is based on Rudra server which is indigenously designed, manufactured and assembled in India in lined with one of the ambitious initiatives “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat”. This facility will enhance the research and development (R&D) of the IIT Patna as well as the other organisations in the eastern part of India.
On this occasion, the nodal officer Prof. Somnath Tripathy expressed his sincere thanks to Director IIT Patna and DG C-DAC for their invaluable support. This collaboration will be beneficial for students as well as the faculty members of the institute. Beside IIT Patna, students and researchers from other institution, MSME Start- ups in and around in the region can also be benefitted out of this initiative.
The Director General of C- DAC E Magesh expressed his gratitude towards IIT Patna for all support and this initiative will go a long way for the students and researchers in creating useful software and solutions for path breaking outcomes.
On this occasion Prof. T N Singh Director IIT Patna said that this supercomputer will be a milestone and it will enhance high level of data computation for various purposes.
